I just bought a 84SC with a 2.8. It starts and idles, but when I go to kick it down, it sputters and dies.

this car has an electronic controled rochester varajet carb. this particular version of the carb was only made for 1 year, so finding one has been hell.

I'm guessing one of the sensors is bad, but I can't find specs for them anywhere so I cant test them.

And I know I could get a holley 4-barrel carb and intake, but this is a $100 car and I really don't want to blow 200+ bucks on a holley setup that I don't need.

anyone know where I might find a camaro varajet for this year, or even all the goodies to convert to TBI cheaply?

Its not really computer controlled. Its all mechanical as far as I know. It sounds like you need to adjust the carb. But first I would clean the carb and put new spark plugs in it. Then see how it does. Is this an automatic car?

I got a haynes manual. It has all the diagrams and stuff. Is the check engine light coming on? If so you can check the codes, all you need is a piece of wire. I reccomend picking up a shop manual too. It will tell you what all the codes mean. Like I said earlier it probly just needs the idle speed adjusted and or a tuneup.
