I didnt mind so much at 1st but now its getting old. I stay at the same post all day long nonstop. I mean i can eat lunch, but i have to either bring it or someone has to drop it off to me which i dont mind. Even then, im on post and if the phone rings, a truck comes to a gate, an inmate acts all crazy, someone needs a door opened i have to go unlock, which leads to another door across the building i have to unlock then let them back though, or i have to lock the entire building down on seconds notice when somebody comes through, then unlock it again. i have to close my lunch back up and go which NEVER fails. ive been doing this for 8 monthes, but i havent said anything becaus i dotn plan on hanging around my current job long. and on a few ocassions, someone dropped my lunch off at the front gate at 11am/1pm and i couldnt get to it until i actually got off work at 6pm that night . i couldnt leave my post and no one could get it. We still get paid for working the full 12 hours but shouldnt we still get a break of some type? We do have down time, but its not consistant.
Of course its not "legal" but working a job you do requires you to bust your ass. You can just quit. :)

I dont mind working my ass off at all, but 12hours non-stop not being able to have 15minutes at least to myself, leave the area, or to eat w/o being interupted would be nice.
I have never even been able to leave for 1 minute to grab a freakin soda out the vending machine. LOL

yes it's legal, you aren't working constantly, if you take a look at your job it is like one long break with occasional work. I have the same type of post you do it seems, you need to plan ahead and bring your water/food with you. If you need a break get on the radio and call for some staff to relieve you.. if they don't come call again and again and again until they get sick of hearing your voice. :)

I called like 3 times for relief the whole 8 monthes ive been their and they act like their stressed out themselves and say "i dont have any relief either, but yes ill send someone." And noone ever came :(. LOL So i just didnt bother calling back becaus i dont wanna be a pest. :( BITCHES!

Jesus christ you have it tough, Kamaro. It must be such a bitch to have to go around unlocking doors.
And no, they don't have to give you shit. The laws say you get either 1/2 hour unpaid break for every 6 hours of work, or you get at least 1 hour of time each day where you can eat your lunch while on duty, and that IS paid. As long as you have ample time to eat a meal, it is perfectly legal. So stop bitching.

Better than my last job. Shelving books in the childrens section of a library for minimum wage. 8 hours or bending over sorting books. Yeah, I got breaks, but it was still hell. I had to obey the orders of LIBRARIANS!

Any work shift 8 hours or more and you need to get a lunch break within the first 5 hours. It doesn't matter if your job only has you sitting on your ass all day anyhow. At least that's the law in CA...

No sh1t i have it tuff. :) Its not just unlocking doors. Its also the person behind the locked door that might not want to stay behind it, then i have to take care of that, take more time to do a report of what happend. To many things to get side tracked on. They need two officers on each post, we only have 1. So im workig bymyself all day, me and anywhere from 80 to as m any as 120 inmates. Think if while you were 'just unlocking doors' and a few of them decided to jump you, if you were lucky enough to call for help, bythe time help arrived they would be scraping you off the floor :)

That's the law as far as I know it, but I don't know if it's the same in NC as CA.

out of 120 people i can assure theirs someone with a sex crime of some sort. Im more worried about the murders that have life sentences with nothing to lose. I mean if they stabbed me, all that could happen to them is that they will get more time added to their 3 life sentances... Whats that gonna matter to them? Know what im saying? Theirs people their that came to prison with a year term, then got into trouble while in prisona nd ended up with 60yrs

Why dont you just clock in and go to the mall like you said you did on your other job? And while youre there you could do a little shoplifting.. Youre the perfect model of a cop.
And you still need to go back to 3rd grade to learn to spell.
