Whats with the mustaches?

This isn't to poke fun at any officers but I've noticed through my experiences that mustaches are the facial hair style of choice and wondered... why?? I never see a cop with a gotee, burns or a beard. Anyone care to offer an explanation?

Actually, one of the cops in my town had a gotee(sp?) for awhile, but he's shaved it now...

Of course, i'm in Silicon Valley so mustaches arent mandatory here like they are in other places...

Beards of any type, mustache below the lip line and side burns below the ear are not allowed out this way.

Most Co.Sheriff's here have a mustache, the majority of other dept's are clean shaven.

Goats and beards are considered unprofessional looking.. and are not allowed anywhere in the State.
