View Full Version : Question re: inspection

Man.. I just don't understand it.

I've gotten away with really wild speeding... shit I thought I was going to the pokey for. I've been pulled over for every moving violation under the sun from "Unsafe Start" to "Failure to Stop".

I always get a warning.

BUT I NEVER GET A FUCKING WARNING CONCERNING INSPECTION!

I have received 4 yes _4_ citations for Inspection now covering 3 different vehicles. What is the big fucking deal? I never get a break.

I can understand getting the lights for it since it's a good excuse to check me out (young guy in sports car)... but why MUST I get a ticket every time?

Is there an excuse I can use to maybe get a break? I've tried telling the truth (I'm waiting on a part to pass), I've tried to feign ignorance (inspection? This is my first car, I don't understand), and I've tried lying (I'm on my way to get it inspected now) .....

I've never gotten a warning! Ever!

The officer is always very nice to me, and I return the favor... but I always get cited.

Why?

BTW... this always happens to me on "new" used fbodies I get. It's not like I'm just letting inspection run out.

And while I'm bitching... if you're gonna sell your fucking fbody, get the bitch inspected! If it won't pass because you redneck engineered the wiring and now the left turn signal only blinks up front.... FIX IT!

Sheesh....

it sounds like the problem stems from a deeper emotional problem. tell us, were you abused as a child? was your father there for you when you were younger? have the lambs stopped screaming?

break law = ticket
break law = warning only if you are lucky

Well...umm...I have an idea.

Your into computer stuff, so I assume you have a digital camera and a decent printer. And I guess your inspection stickers are like VA's.. sticker in the winshield.

Get your camera, and take a good picture of a current sticker on a car. Load it up into photoshop, do some resizing.. print it out. Cover the whole front side of the "sticker" with a thin coat of elmers glue.. and slap that puppy in your winshield.. heh.

If done right.. it looks dead on. Might need to tweak the color in photoshop.. depends on your printer/paper on how much.

And no, I've never done such a thing, that would be wrong http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

(But if you get busted with a fake sticker.. prepare to get your ass handed to you buy police.. I'm sure it would fall under some sort of forged state document or something)

Because it's a fix-it ticket. It's a way to ensure that the vehicle gets an inspection. Most people get inspected within 10 days and get the charges dropped.

Jay, that'll get you arrested down here. http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif Class B misdemeanor....county jail time. People try it all the time. We have secrets for detecting them. http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/wink.gif Bullit can attest to that, I'm sure. There are features there that WILL be distorted if you copy them.

Works in VA http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/smile.gif

I did it once for a little while cause some nazis failed my car for a bunch of stuff that wasnt broken.. heh just mainly drove the car at night. Even drove thru a road block where a bunch of police were there checking registrations and stuff.. no one said a thing..heh.

But, i figured, if I got caught with it, I'd be in some serious trouble http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Works in NYC too. http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

When you register a used car here in NY, they give you a temporary inspection sticker. White piece of paper that is easily scanned and doctored. I should know, done it a few times. http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif hehe

I have the files home of the sticker. If I have time later I'll upload them and post them. http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Anyways, that's my story.

What the hell, I'll say what it is. There are bar code lines on our inspection stickers. I've seen some damned good fake ones, but they ALWAYS smear the bar code on it. I don't know if they are made that way specifically, but the fakes ones always have a bit of blur on the edges of those bar code lines.

Yeah TC, but how far away can you spot that? Sure, my sticker looked a bit fake when you were right on top of it.. but from say 5 feet or more away, you couldn't tell the difference.

No, from a distance, there's no way unless it's a BAD fake. But when I have a car stopped, I can instantly tell if it's a fake.

Thats what I figured. I just drove safe, cause I knew if I got pulled over for anything, they would spot it.. and I'd be in some serious trouble.

just get one of those tags off your socks when they are new that say "inspected by Q40" and tell the cop it has been inspected, you have the sticker to prove it. you shouldn't have too many problems after that. at the very least you'll make some new friends.....the bondsmen, the inmates, the jailers, the judges, the lawyers, the jury, the bailiffs, the probation officers and probably a bunch of other really great people.

Yeah, inspection stuff is no fun. I got into an accident with my old 87 Camaro. Unfourtunatly for my I had steamed the inspetion sticker off of my (Now gone) 1975 Monte Carlo. Well, it started to fall off, and the cop who was questioning me at the scene noticed it. I got cuffed & stuffed, and sat for like 5 hours in the 'drunk tank'. All in all I had
1) Failure to yield.
2) Failure to notify DMV of adress change.
3) Driving an uninspected vehicle.
4) Falsifying an inspection sticker.
5) Insufficient Brakes.
Fun Fun Fun, Fun Fun. 6 points and $160 later...my insurance is now $3,000 a year. Oh, BTW, I have a 100% VALID inspection sticker now, even my parking brake works.

Well aslong as were on the topic:
Next time your at the junkyard look for a sticker thats still good, spend 20+ minutes in the hot sun w/ a razor blade and your set.
If questioned by the fuzz, just give them the "Ive had the windshield replaced" routine. (helps if windsheld is not chipped or cracked).
Unfortunetly in NJ they now have vehicle info (make model year) on the stickers, so youd have to find a similar make and model w/ a good sticker.
My 84 is good till early 02 and the 83 has to go to "inspection" in a couple months.

It sucks, its very difficult to buy inspection stickers from garages or private mechs, the state really has a big stick up its ass about that sorta thing.
