Ok so whats the deal with undercar neons. I was thinking of putting red ones under my car to match the red stripes and red interior. Are they leagal or are they not? Ive heard so many different stories on this subject.

That's a tricky question because you're dealing with so many different states. I know here in Texas you cannot show anything other than red or yellow to the rear. That means if we can see purple under the car from the rear, and it doesn't matter if it's reflecting off the ground, it's illegal. There's no way to do it to where it doesn't light up the ground, so most of the kids put them inside the cars down here.

Same in Connecticut, although if it's inside and any color other than white or yellow is visible from the front, or red and white to the rear, it's display of improper color lights.

If you had a switch and you only turned it on at certain times like when the car isn't moving is it ok? Do the laws only apply when the car is moving or is it always? I would never add neon but a kid I know is adding some weird red light to the front of his Camaro like the night rider one. I told him it's illegal but he said that he'll add a switch so he'll only turn it on at certain times. So now I'm not sure.

In CA, it's red or amber to the rear, white or amber to the front. Nothing of blue or red can be put on the front of the car...not even blue colored bug guards...not that you'd wanna have one on your camaro http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I don't know what the penal code is for CA in regards to lights like those but I'm sure it can fall under a section that deals with distraction and improper colors.
