View Full Version : Just curious, how many REAL officers are here?

I'm not talking reservists. No offense, but I've never considered them actual officers unless they're retired from full time law enforcement. (those that have dealt with reservists know what I mean http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif )

How many full time officers do we have here? Military police included.

Not full time but as real as a heart attack!
Sorry TC, but offense taken here, I've got every bit as much training as ANY officer, if not more. What's a reservist anyway?

They're unpaid guys that do other jobs, then come out on the weekends and screw everything up for the rest of us. http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Sort of like the Army National Guard or Reserves (those that served in either AND active duty know what I mean).

They're the ones that will beat a suspect on the side of the road, then be back at work at Microsoft Monday morning while leaving the full timers behind to clean up the mess. :P

I honestly didn't intend to offend, it's just that I've had nothing but negative experiences with them and none that I met could tell you anything that was in the traffic code. Hell, a neighboring city had one shoot himself in the leg during a felony stop. How in the HELL do you do that??? LOL

We used to have them here, but the chief canned the program because of all the problems with it.

I'm still amazed TC, that you think less of us that do it part-time. I do it not for the money, but because I want to help my community. We have done it all and continue to do it all, we have had some VERY bad dudes in this town. Email me and I can let you know. I don't know about your reserves but I have police powers throughout the state.

It could just be the area that I'm in. See, we don't have many reservists around here and the ones we DO have are out in the county, and our county officers, for the most part, leave a LOT to be desired....even the full-timers. I guess serving papers all day turns you into that over time, I dunno. Dallas PD still has reservists and we deal with them every weekend at the street races. I'm here to tell you, they're a joke. We out there chasing everybody we can down and they're all sitting there sipping Cokes and watching all the action. When the full timers get out there, the Reservists then jump into action, but the second the full timers are gone, they're back to sipping their Cokes.

I guess I should clarify.....Reservists ARE real cops, but the ones I've dealt with lead me to believe a lot of them just don't take the job seriously.

So I guess we're not the only ones that sterotype people based on profession. http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif

How is that stereotyping a profession??? They're cops, same as me, but with different certifications. http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif

i decided a long time ago i would rather not have reservists around after i heard black echo bragging about being one. that guy is going to get himself shot one day trying to act bad ass because of his two months of training.

Good example, lucas. Damn good example. Firecop and IROCSS, THAT is what I'm talking about. Go read some of those stories some time and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. It's THAT that I am talking about. If you're not like that, then you have nothing to worry about. http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

firecop, I had a good sized professional ego before I even got to Texas. http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif I'm damn good at what I do. At times, by God, I'm the best and I'm not afraid to admit to it. http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'm here & am full time with 12 years. I do understand what he meant about reserves. Here in Oklahoma they are also sometimes called auxliary officers. When working, they have the same powers that we do. As with anyone else in any other professions, there are good ones & not so good ones. When I was newer/younger I preferred not to have one riding with me, but have since come to appreciate the conversation & extra set of eyes.

I consider myself a "real" cop. I was a fulltime officer until I started to have family issues I had to deal with. Because of what was going on, I had to leave my fulltime status and obtain another job. I was "forced" to leave my job as a fulltime officer. If I was fired or terminated based on actions that I have done, then it would have been a different story. My heart is still in law enforcement...and that is where it belongs. Which is why I'm in Reserves...

i know this is late in the coming and i'm new to this board so cut me some slack, but i used to be a reserve. i worked alone in a city of 3,500. that city had 4 paid officers and 10 reserves. and i stayed busy as hell when i worked. i have now been a paid full-time officer for 4 years in much larger, active cities. there are some reserves that do not belong on the street. there are some full time paid cops that do not belong on the street. i agree with the fact that rookies and reserves are easy to spot. the story telling alone clarifies their status as an officer or reserve. i like to call it the security guard hard-on. they want so much to get into action yet they are intimidated by the street and the people they come into contact with. they only want people to know they are a cop and telling weekend warrior stories does just that. they want people to be intimidated by their status, but they are easily intimidated by everything. my department has two reserves. one left a full time position to work for the fire department and the other left his full time position to work in the family business. they are great guys, but then again they are 'experienced' officers. the difference between reserves and vets is one tells stories, the other brags about what he did on the weekend. and a reserve can be a vet.

You don't get paid on reserve?

Do some people actually value their power trip so much that they actually go out to be shot at just so they can wear a badge? WTF?

BTW, If reservists get away with so much, where do I sign? I wouldn't actaully work, just go around an drag the piss outta the cruiser I am issued drag racing people and whacking people with nightsticks. That would rule. http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/wink.gif
