When I'm driving with my radar dectector I notice I don't get a lot of cops. My friend told me that some cops don't cruise with "radar." What exactly is that? And why can I get cops sometimes but others I can't? Is it the radio or the radar gun or something else that makes radar detectors go off?

As for an 84' Mustang, do you think it actually is a real Mustang. HOpefully you know when it says Mustang on it thats all it does, just SAYS Mustang. It has no such image to make it go fast or look cool. A girlfriend will take care of that for ya'. Good luck. Newsance's 84' Mustang

We have hold buttons on our radar units. If I just want to generally slow traffic down, I leave my radar active. If I want to catch you speeding, I keep it on hold (no dopplar waves emit when on hold) and release the hold when I want you clocked. If you don't look to be speeding, I never take it off hold, thus your radar detector never goes off.

I got a question that was pertaining to this....
One day I was bored so I found a cop sititng in a school zone w/ instant on radar (like what you are talking about) so I cruised past him 3-4 times seeing what would happen and stuff... well, I found something really weird. When coming at him from the front I wouldn't pick him up until he aimed it at a car infront of me, which was normal, but coming from behind I would pick him up from like 300 yards! Weakly, but I would pick him up. I never figured out why it is. Is there some sort of doppler wave leak going to the rear but not the front or something? I tested this many times on this cop and every time I could pick him up before I saw him from the rear, but from the front he was silent....
Thanks a ton,

Reflection off something to the front.

What kind of radar dectector do you have? I know some of them are more sensitive to different sections of 360 but not sure how that works.

I have a Si83, its a Bel Signature series one. Firecop, why would it be a steady signal on a instant on radar setup if it was reflecting off of something in the front? Is that what you meant or where you saying it does emit a steady beam and that was reflecting off of something in front....
Thanks,
