i'm sitting here, reading over the Alabama State Laws on concealed carry: http://www.packing.org/state/alabama/

Part of it says: Section 13A-11-59 (b) It shall be unlawful for any person, other than a law enforcement officer, to have in his or her possession or on his or her person or in any vehicle any firearm while participating in or attending any demonstration being held at a public place.
(c) It shall be unlawful for any person, other than a law enforcement officer as defined in subsection (a) of this section, to have in his or her possession or about his or her person or in any vehicle at a point within 1,000 feet of a demonstration at a public place, any firearm after having first been advised by a law enforcement officer that a demonstration was taking place at a public place and after having been ordered by such officer to remove himself or herself from the prescribed area until such time as he or she no longer was in possession of any firearm

Also, in other states i've noticed where its illegal to carry while in Resturants, Schools (Which makes sense) etc.

It seems to me that some of these places might contain the potential for danger. So what do you do, and why? Do you obey the law, or do you do whats in the best interest of you and your family, and discretly carry? In some of ya'lls experiences, how do you feel about people packing in areas where its illegal? In those cases where they aren't breaking a law, yet you find they're carrying. EX. You pull someone over from another state who then politely informs you that they are carrying, yet your state doesn't honor their permit.

I'm just a firm believer that a gun doesn't do you any good unless its always on you. But i do worry about the balance between doing what is SAFE and doing what is RIGHT.

Interesting, first carrying a gun in a crowded situation like a demonstration does not make good sense. If you did pull it panic
would most likely be set off in the crowd and with a large gathering of people, how could you safely use deadly physical force
with endangering bystanders? As for restaurants I don't know it's legal here and I have no problem with that. Bars, no way,
no guns in bars period. (I don't do it)

As for carry by out of state people, if it's a handgun and you don't have a permit, your gonna get pinched. If it's a long gun or
shot gun you've got no problem.

Thats a good point about the crowds. I never thought of that.

It just seems that if i were to pull someone over for speeding (says businessman on a business trip out of state), and they informed me that they had a gun in the glovebox, and it turned out that my state didn't honor their permit, that i might let it slide. I don't know though. Since i'm a CJ major, i've been thinking about some of these things lately.

Just out of curiosity, what are some common things that can happen for carrying in a state that doesn't honor your permit? Also, whats the reasoning behind not allowing a NationWide Carry permit? Is it just because the laws vary so differently?

Sorry for all of the questions http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/smile.gif

Second question first, yes. With the varying laws from state to state it would almost impossible to have a nationwide permit.
I think it's a good idea, but I don't think it would ever happen. Too many politicians have too many ideas!

The carry without a permit would probably vary from state to state, here it's a felony, so your cuffed, stuffed, fingerprinted,
mugged and held on bond. It would suck large! http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Oh dang, i see why now. I didn't know that it was a felony charge. Well hell yeah then! I can see why it would be enforced no matter what http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanks for the clearup http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Before the conseal carry law here in Texas it used to be legal to carry a firearm in the car if you are going on a long trip. Is that is law or did that change?

Looks like I found the info on the DPS web site.

Q: Can I still carry a handgun without a permit while traveling?
A: Yes. The concealed handgun law augments existing state weapons laws but does not replace them. The offense of unlawfully carrying a weapon does not apply if you are traveling.
