Does anyone know where I could find a V6 2.8 to V8 350 swap kit? I know that it would be cheaper just to go out and buy a new car with a v8, I just want to know for informational purposes. Also, for my v6, anyone know how I could improve the damn thing for more power just as a v6 (to save money). I like to do some comparing. Thank you. <img src="graemlins/hail.gif" border="0" alt="[hail]" />

Check ebay and buy an LS1 or LT1. Usually they sell the transmission with them, and anything else you need you can pick up there too.

You can't squeeze much more power from the v6. Just save your money for the v8 swap. You'll need motor mounts, front and rear springs, a radiator, and a v8 tranny. I'm gonna do the swap. At autozone the springs, mounts, and radiator are about $250.

Okay, how about what kind of v8... I have access to a carb 350 for dirt cheap with everything on it. Or should I save up for the big guns like an LT1 or Ls1. I have heard that it is a hellof alot easier with the carb switch (plus it would be 10x cheaper), but I hear you can't quite squeeze as much power out of them. I'm only shooting for 350 - 400 hp.

A carbed 350 will have no trouble at all making 350-400hp. It will definately be much cheaper and easier of a swap than a LT1, LS1, or any TPI engine.

All this depends on emissions law too. If you have the MPFI V6, then you probably can't legally go to a carbed setup. But it's not like there aren't ways around that. Anyhow, if you get a computer controlled engine, you will also need the computer from the donor car. Just allow yourself plenty of time, and don't rush anything, and it shouldn't be too difficult.

I don't believe I have to worry about emissions because they got rid of emissions 3 years ago here in MN and I don't think they plan on bringing it back anytime soon (knock on wood!). I don't plan on rushing this either... although I am kindof confused on what transmission I should get because I know the v6 tranny could'nt hang. Some people tell me a 700r4 would be perfect, others say I should do a auto to a manual swap, like a T6 (but I know a T6 would cost $$$$$$$!!!) while others say a T5 wouldn't be a bad idea. Anyone with any input on this matter??

Well, if you have an auto tranny now, it'd be a bit of extra work to install a manual, but not much more than you will already be doing. If you're planning on having the engine and drivetrain out, you might as well put in the stuff you want the first time instead of tearing back into the transmission when you have less space avaliable to you. Personally, I'd go with the T-56 swap. A built 700R4 will cost about as much as the swap will, maybe a little cheaper. But for me, being able to shift through 6 gears would be worth it. I love standard transmissions. Spohn sells an aftermarket T-56 that comes with all the stuff necessary to adapt the tranny to a T-5 bellhousing and clutch setup. And don't go with a 5 speed. It's all the same work and money with one less gear avaliable to you.

Chris, what I think you meant to say was, "Mr. Dude, that was funny as hell, and perceptive too!".

I wouldn't do that, you might want your tongue later in life. Plus, it hurts like hell. On the other hand, I'm not sure if you were planning on getting a newer, faster tongue once you've saved up the money.
