I have a 91 firebird with a 3.1 in it and i was looking for something like a supercharger, turbo, etc....for it. I just want something that can give me between 10 and 30 or so more horsepower, please i need info on this. It's mostly just a weekly driver. thanks  Jacthesnake@yahoo.com

You could put a 50 hp shot of nos on. Maybe a 75 shot, I'm not sure.

I wouldn't do any of the above before rebuilding the bottom end with some stronger parts. The 60* V6's were built for economy, not necessarily performance, so the pistons are weak, especially towards the edges. Thusly, a turbo or blower with too much PSI or too large a nitrous shot, and half of your piston get blown off. On a stock engine, I'd say that maybe 8lbs or less of boost or a 50HP shot of nitrous would be a somewhat safe level, as long as the car wasn't beaten on too often. And no, there aren't really any people who offer 60* V6 setups for any of the options you're researching, so custom fabrication would be necessary. Nitrous would be the easiest.

thanks i'm going to rebuild the bottom end the first time i have any problems internally( the engine of coarse) but for now i just want a little more performance, thanks for the info

hehe superchargers add a little more than 30 horsepower depending on boost. my bro is rice and he can get a bolt on supercharger that adds 90 hp for his civic, so i am sure a 3.1 liter can do at least that properly built. later

I saw a supercharger kit that adds about 50hp. It's not worth $2-3k for a gain like that.

1) Go with the super Charger or the Turbo.
2) ok now a school leason

A. Nitrous Oxide is N2O.
B. Nitrous Oxide Systems is NOS
C. That means get a shot of Nitrous Oxide (N2O) not a shot of Nitrous Oxide Systems(NOS)

I blame this on the movie the Fast and the Furious.

" I NEED NOS, LOTS OF IT "

I'm not stupid either, NOS stands for nitrous oxide systems, nitrous oxide is what there products use, i'm sorry if i didn't make my self clear, i do know what i'm talking about, do you have a life or do you just try to make other ppl look stupid on the internet all day.

If you can do any fab work yourself you are better off buying a bad turbo. Just make sure the shaft DOES SPIN FREELY and that the INTAKE side is fine. If the exhaust side is wasted, do like me and fab a system to adapt it to a Centrifugal supercharger. with intercooler. My costs todate 112. Thats the cost of the turbo and intercooler. The Import timing and water pump pullies I got for free.

Fire_rs, Finally someone that is close to me. I am near C'Dale.

And topic reply.
Personally I do not trust NOS. i have eseen it cause alot of probs, yes some of it was user ignorance, but I just want the power always there, not just at a push of a button, unless that button is controlling a boost controller. :D
