This should be really simple for any audio guy. Over the last few days the car "system" (stock) in my beater, a 86 Olds Calais is acting strange. Static on every station, especially the lower FM band. Just today no matter what station I tuned in it was all playing the same song!!! (wires crossed, loose connection?) I have to hit the center console by the radio and that "fixes" it but that is OLD now.
Any ideas? Probably the old stock radio is going.... I would like to get a CD player anyway but I dont want to get fleeced by some salesman.
Thanks.

yeah sounds to me like a bad stereo. if your in the market for a cd player i would seriously look for one over the internet. that would be one of the cheapest places to find one. i used to work at a car audio shop and i would find cd palyers speakers and just about everything else i was looking for cheaper than what i could get it for at cost. and installation isnt that hard. just call up a stereo shop and ask for the color codes for your cars wiring harness. youll need to by a wiring harness for the cd player which will run you about 15 bucks and a dash kit so it fits in which is about 10 bucks. all you do with the wires is pretty much match the colors up. thats what is the expensive part when takin it to a audio shop to get it installed they charge anywhere from 40 - 100 to install a radio. and if you do decide to get it installed dont go through best buy.

Thanks, I think a few local friends have systems for sale. I will probably go that route.
