ok here is the thing..I bought a 83 SC 270ci V6 camaro with 128000 KM on it a few days ago..
obviously it wasnt taken care of very well as it has some rust and well the engine was kinda dirty ( black air filter)
anyhow..
I was driving around after I bought it and I started to hear this ticking noise coming from the engine. the more I accelrated the louder the noise got. and before I could get home it died on me..
I took it to a mechanic and he said it is most likely the timing chain..
so I stripped the water pump and timing cover to get to the chain and it is on. Its on pretty good..its just alittle loose on one side..but it doesnt look like its gonna fall off.
if anyone could help...

Did you check your oil level? The ticking you heard may have been your lifters from not being pressurized with oil. While you have everything apart you may just want to put a new timing chain on even though it may look good. You said it has 168,000 miles and the chain is most likely the original, probably be good preventative maintenance if you plan on leaveing the 6 cyl in the car. Good luck. Hope I helped a little.

it has only 1280000 I plan on replacing it anyhow..sonce its apart anyhow..
the oil..well I thought it was not enough when I checked the engine so I poured in some more..then when I checked again it had too much..the oil was kinda dirty..so I plan on doing a full tune up to the car ( wires, plugs, filters, oil)....I am hoping its something simple.
