I have access to a dirt cheap 350 that just got the bottom end rebuilt... It currently has a carburetor based intake manifold. How do you convert a carbed to FI, I know you can, do you just buy a new intake manifold?
-I know to do the swap I need a computer out of a v8 car and new springs/shocks... But will my weak v6 tranny, with a new bellhousing mount up for the time being, or should I just wait 6 months or so until I have money for a tranny?
-I have also heard that my diff will work... I like the way it cruises at 70 or so now... and even with my v6 attached to it, it seems to accelerate well... Any thoughts?
What else do I need to know? If I do this, I will be selling my v6… its got 90,000 on it now… has anybody been able to get any money for a 3.1L?

[ 01-02-2002: Message edited by: jokeplayer ]

To tell you the truth I'd avoid that route. Unless you're really connected to that v6 car it ain't worth it. First you'll need the engine mounts, probably new transmission, all the engine accessories, the complete fuel system as well as everything associated for TPI to work. You add up it up and it comes out to a shitload of money. Even then you have the low end handling so you'd want to upgrade that.
OR
This is northern california. Look on yahoo classifieds and you'll see about 5 high mileage V6 3rd gens for about $4000, although insane don't be surprised if you can get about $2500. Then look here:

You'll see if you keep your eye open you can get a real surprise. Figure you'll spend about $1800 for everything, title, tax, and price difference if you are good after you sell you V6 car since it's in descent shape.
Oh yeah I go to Northgate too, I park on Hutchinson :D

Hey, I saw you going toward John Muir today (tuesday)... I thought i'd seen your car around... Do you work at High Tech? I was thinking of doing the engine swap for senoir project, but that idea got shot down already.

Yeah, that was it. Yes, I did work at high tech and tomorrow I'm filling out my return to work paper :). $9.50 an hour on average gets some good parts. So that'll go to subframe connectors, exhaust, ignition, rear suspension, gearing and brakes. Then finally at the beginning of summer I'm hoping to have TPI and then at the end I'm hoping to at least run low 13's naturally aspired. If you park on the back you'll see me at about 7:35 parked. Although for a project switching to a v8 might not be worth it but buy a 5.7 TPI. Those be fast.
