Acceleration Problem?

I have just removed my smog/air pump & catalytic converter due to poor performance. Now, under hard acceleration, the engine stumbles/hesitates, & I hear a clicking coming from behind the speedo in the dash or possibly the engine compartment. Is this an electronic problem from the ECM because the pump is now gone or could it be something else? Thanks!

The ECM is trying to make your car run lean because it thinks that is running rich due to the fact that there is no more air coming from the air injectors that were on the exaust manifold, so if I were you I would get a differant carb like a holley 600 CFM or a 600 CFM Edelbrock spreadboar, that has no control soloniod.

I did the same thing to my 86 MC SS and had no problems. Are you getting a "Check Engine" light?

No check engine light, which surprised me. I also disconnected the battery to see if it would reset the ecm, but no luck. . .
