With that said, take your registration down to the local dealership parts department and tell them you lost your vats key and need a replacement. Show them proof of ownership and the VIN# and they should be able to pop you out a new one for the price of the key.

the VIN does not contain the VATS info for my car...chevy roadside said it must never have been inputed. but the cut info was there. sooo...they could not give me a key. they want 200 dollars to do it. same for most locksmiths...if not more.

heres the update...i got it to start. i got an adjustable resistor...a Potentiometer...and hooked it up to my multimeter. tested the ohms and adjusted it until i got the right resistance. (i have all 15 resistances for our cars) i happened to get it on my 2nd try. soo..now i can go get my key. http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/smile.gif i am so happy. thanks for the support guys.

yes, you can bypass it.

run a Ford (yes, Ford) starter solenoid inline with your stock solenoid and rig the switch up with that solenoid and you can start your car without a key, even.

The other way you can do this is to bypass the VATS starter solenoid (in the drivers side kick panel) and then you have to ground out one wire going into the computer, but I don't remember which one offhand...
