Can you interchange carriers between 7.5 and 7.62 inch rearends?

Somebody GAVE me a 3 carrier posi unit from '90 Z28. That Z had 7.5 inch factory 3.73's. The posi has 28 splines. The rear on my car is '84 3.73. It is also a 3 carrier, but the axles only have 26 spline. I am not sure if I have 7.5 or 7.62 inch rearend.

Would I need to have 7.5 inch rearend for the posi to work, or will it work in both rears?

Well, I'm sure that the number of splines will be a problem. http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/confused.gif The carriers can be swapped as long as the gears go with it I'm pretty sure, ask 91bird305 I think he did a similar swap with his gears.

90 has the bigger spline axels, so you will need those, which are the 30 spline, you have 28 spline.

they don't have 30 spline axles in 3rd gens. There is 26 in the early ones and 28 in the late ones....
