auto shifter knob removal on 91Z

[91Zman]

I had just bought an aftermarket Z28 shifter knob and I can't figure out why the knob won't come off.I took the button,the thing under that,and that is were I am stuck at.There is no C-clip or anything that I can see that holds the knob down.Can anyone help?

On my 88 there was a clip facing the dash about 1/2 inch up from the metal part of the stick. it is a bitch to find and even more of a bitch to remove for the first time. I can't remember if it is actually under the leather cover or not, my leather fell off after a while and it was easy to find the clip. Set the ebrake and turn the key on and pull the stick back all the way so you can see behind it, you might find it.
