Ok, so it's possible that my 700R4 is on its way out. Perfect time to consider a swap to manual... http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif Here's my ?s....
I've heard that a T-5 can't handle anything bigger than a 305. Is that true? I'm debating whether or not to swap to a bigger engine someday, if so I'd wanna go with a 6 speed, correct?
Is it a huge pita/expense to put in a manual tranny? I'm almost wondering if it'd be easier/cheaper to buy a car that already has one. I don't have thousands of dollars to throw around putting a tranny in my car. Wondering if a 700R4 rebuild or a manual tranny is cheaper. I would think the rebuild... but oh how I want a stick shift... http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/frown.gif

Rebuilding the 700 would probably be cheapest.
I wouldn't recomend a swap to a T5. They don't handle as much torque as the 700. If you do want a manual go with the T56. If you get a used one you might get a decent deal. It is "almost" a direct bolt in. You will need to modify "or get modified" the Transmission crossmember. You can use the Clutch & pressure plate, bell housing, through out assembly, and hydraulics from a 4th gen F body. You can use the pedel assembly from a third gen.

Actually the T-5 will handle more then the 700R-4. Non eof that lockup stuff either. I am doing this swap myself soon and it's definatly cheaper to find a used T-5 and do a swap will only run a few hundred (3 or 4 depending on tranny cost) Vs. rebuilding a 700R-4 at around 1100. (lowest quote I got.)
Hope this helps.

Damnnnnnn, $1100 for a 700r4 rebuild?!?!?
The shops in WA are reaming people a new ass. It should cost between $500 and $800.
A TCI Street fighter 700r4 cost only $1100-$1200. That includes a kevlar band improved clutch materials and the 3/4 clutch pack with more discs. Also a TCI valve body improvement kit. They use only late model (the most improved) cores and there is no core charge to you.
There is a reason the T5 didn't come in TPI 5.0 cars when they were new. They couldn't handel the increased low RPM torque of the EFI engine. When they improved the T5 (world class) they could use them in the TPI 5.0 but they still couldn't handel the torque of the TPI 5.7.
A properly prepaired late model 700r4 can reliablely handel 650 lbs/ft torque and well over 800 horsepower.
