Well, I'm poor, and I don't think I can afford true header coating.. (how much does coating a set of headers cost, btw?)

So I was maybe thinking of having them coated at a powder-coating place locally, because I know the owners and I can get it done very cheaply.. but I'm not sure if it would hold up as well.. anyone know anything about high-temp powder coating? It's baked on, so I think it would be decent enough.. but I dunno.

Also, what about chrome-dipped headers -- would chrome help for underhood heat and keep them from rusting? I'm thinking no, but I can get that done cheaply also, so..... http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/smile.gif

I'm just trying to weigh all my options.. I can get chrome or powdercoating done very cheaply, but I don't know of anyone locally that does header coating, specifically.. what do they use to coat the headers when they coat them, anyways?

You can't just powdercoat them. The melting temperature for powdercoat is lower than the header temp.
You can get the materials to ceramic coat from Tech Line Coatings (http://www.techlinecoatings.com/). Then your friends at the powdercoat shop can do it for you with the right stuff.

i may pull the ypipe off and sand it down and have just the ypipe coated..

You might as well do the headers too. They take longer to rust because they heat up more and burn the moisture off, but they will rust soon. Mine did.
