OK, sometime very soon, I want to put a good set of headers and exaust on the RS. It's a 305. Is there any recommendation of one header that is better than the other? I am considering Edelbrock headers and Flowmaster exaust. What is everyone's opinion?

I think SLP's would be most peoples choice if cost isn't figured in and if you are planning on keeping the car for a long time. Quality and Edelbrock's TES are something that can't be used together.

The car will remain within our family forever, it was purchased new in 91. It's our baby! Are you particularly opposed to Edelbrock? Please explain why? Indon't understand.

If you can afford it go with the SLP.

Dude, I can afford to go with SLP. What ever is going to give me the best investment and the most return on my money. Is that the best I can go with? I want something that will last, and serve the purpose well. I am looking for the best, not the most expensive. If you know what I mean. I am not looking to do a whole lot of mods to this car. This car is going to be kept fairly close to stock. I will be doing major mods on the first gen when I finally locate a good one.

If your getting edelbrocks, get them coated. If not, they will eventually rust out. You don't have to worry about coating the SLP's because they are stainless steel.
Edelbrocks also have small primary tubes(1 5/8in), and you can get bigger tubes with the SLPs(1 3/4in). But, I don't know if you will need the bigger tubes with a 305.
Since you plan on keeping the car a long time, I'd get the SLP's because they won't rust.

JAY hit the nail on the head...the SLPs will outlast the edelbrocks even if they are coated. So get those SLPs dangit... http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.3rdgen.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanks Guys!!! I do believe I am going to go ahead with the SLP's. Sounds like they are a far superior header.

If you purchase your headers from Jet-Hot (http://www.jet-hot.com) or purchase them new elsewhere and send them to Jet-Hot (http://www.jet-hot.com) to get them ceramic coated before you install them they will warranty them from rust through for life.
Even f you get stainless it is a good idea to get them coated. It will reduce under hood temps and increase exhaust velocity. The bad thing about stainless is that it releases more heat into the air around the header, increasing the temperature under the hood and decreasing exhaust velocity as well.
On a stock or near stock 5.0 liter engine you should go with 1½" or 1 5/8" diameter primaries. This is to keep up the velocity also. 1¾" primaries will likely make less power on a mild 305 due to poor scavenging.

I should have read this forum before I put these edel's on my '88 iroc-z (305 tpi). Changing stock manifolds-to-headers is one of the hardest things I've tried to do in a while. I'm still not finished, (last bolt, right-side, hard to get to.
