Hello, I am new to this forum (this is my first post) and I need some help. I own a 1991 Camaro RS with a 305 and just found a guy who has a 1992 Corvette that wants to get rid of the powertrain for all new stuff. This is my first project car and I have no mechanical experience at all. Do you think this is a doable thing for me. Also will everything fit okay i.e. Motor, Trans, Rear End, etc.

My Questions are.

Should I keep my stock trans or get the Corvette one?

What about the Traction Control will that work?

Will the A/C work?

Will everything fit in okay?

Do you think this is a doable project?

The guy will give me everything I need, but is there still other stuff I will need to buy?

Thank you for your time.

I'm a big fag by the way.... ;)

Why don't you actually go LOOK at a Vette and then answer some of your questions.

The rear end will NOT work, it has IRS and a completely different suspension setup. There's only ONE person that I know of who did it and it wasn't easy. The mere fact that you're even having to ask about this swap tells me you do not have the technical expertise that would be required to do the project.

The transmission mounts differently. You'd have to fabricate a way to mount it completely on your own.

Traction control is only an electronic way to reduce the gas on the pedal. You *COULD* make it work, but you'd have to wire too much shit up, and most people remove it anyways.

Yes, everything FITS (-rear end). Mounting it is the problem. Wiring it is the bigger problem.

No, the guy will not give you everything you need. Yes you'll have to buy shit, lots of shit.

LT1 swap isn't hard, but it isn't the direct drop in/plug and play like you're thinking it is.

My advice is that you don't seem to even have a clue what you're doing so unless you're prepared to fuck your shit up and have your car down for months or end up paying someone to finish it for you who'll charge you double since they'd have to figure out what the fuck you'd already done and they'd know that you don't have a clue what you're doing, so you really don't need to even try.

What if I just bought the motor and dropped it in and then ordered a rear end from strange would that be better.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing... swapping in an LT1 and T56 into my 87... then in the process decided to do a full restoration. SO I am learning along the way. Never did any engine work.. or body work.. or sanding.. painting.. real wiring... etc. SO this ia all new to me as well. But this is also the best way to learn.. grow a pair, dive in and do it. :) I've learned a lot on this project already.

Pics are not in order.. but you should be able to figure out the order..

The IRS rear end will NOT work without MAJOR MAJOR modification. I'm not talking about the type of modification where you just buy what you need. I'm talking about you have to fabricate your own stuff and hack your car up.

And the transmission will be a ZF-6 if it has an LT1. It's not a T56. In other words, you'll again have to FABRICATE some sort of cross member b/c the mounting isn't the same. F-body LT1's had T56's behind them. LT1 Vettes had ZF6's. LS1 Vettes had T56's.

As far as getting the engine in, it's not that hard, but the wiring is a huge PITA.

It's b/c even though it was slightly mean, there was absoltely no useful information in my post, after all, this guy can't even get his hood open.

Well i checked the LT-1 out and the guy had thrashed it. So I am going to get a new crate motor. And as for the tranny I will just put a shift kit on. And I will order a new Strange rear end or Mosser.

that's what I'm talkin' about. NO need to try to turn your camaro into a corvette. Just put somethin in there that makes it go a little better and drive that fucker!

I think you mean to say, "hookers and blow."

But hondas are the suck! there's better ways to get around for cheap. Like buying an old 3rd gen camaro. I drove about a hundred miles across town and back in my pos berlinetta and people couldn't stop starin' at it

Your 91 has a 7.625 rear like the later camaro's and 'birds so it will hold if your not too aggressive. Also the transaxle started in 1997 (c5) the trans from the 92 would be technically the same as yours if automatic.
