i have a 91 z that was a tpi car. i am about done building my new motor and it is a carb motor. my question is can the electronic fuel pump be modified to be just a pickup so that i can run a manual fuel pump on the motor. if so then if anyone knows what it takes to do it i would appreciate the info.
Thanks
Corey
I did the same thing as you. The way I did it was by buying a fuel regulator. If you decide to go with that make sure you go with a good one, about $90, if you put in a weaker one it can blow the gaskets out of the regulator and carb. It has to lower it down to 5 to 7 psi. If you want to save some $ you can pull back the carpeting and cut a hole in the floor above the tank where the pump is(unfortunately there's no access panel). Then just take the pump out and replace it with a longer hose with the filter from the pump on the end. It needs to be longer to reach the bottom of the tank or it wont reach all the fuel. Then somewhere in the line, best by the carb put another fuel filter, this way you have 1 running from the tank to the pump and 1 from the pump to the carb. Whichever one you choose good luck and I hope this helps.
P.S.
Im going to change mine the other
way cause it will ensure you never
need to change the electronic fuel
pump if it breaks and the filter you
have in the tank will likely never
need changing.
