we messed with his timing today here at my house before we hit the car gathering. didn't really seem to help anything.

munson i redid my valve lash per gms spec of 0lash then 1 full turn
no matter what the car pings on 6 not sure if its because of the bad valve seals or what
i just put it down till it stops pinging when it was tbi 4 was the highest i could go with no ping
but i made a mark that so i know where 6 is atlest i should have done this when i was over your house with tbi i had 6 4 2 0 -2 marked so i knew where to put it
oh and i rechecked the specs for a 91 tpi 205 hp with 285 torque

thats why i feel it pull so much harder top end then lowend
as i only picked up so much low end

Sumthing is up. This is TPI on a TBI motor right?

on stock GM lifters and stock GM rockers, 1 full turn would bottom out the lifter.
you need a half turn for GM specs... a full turn is too much lifter preload.

yes it is
im getting no codes engine isnt retarding from the knock sensor or anything

the driveiblity is much better as in power it has is right where i want and need it

it just didnt seem to give me as much power as a normal tpi car

everyone thats done the swap ended up with 20 hp and 50 lbs of torque over tbi
but alas my car is always the odd one out

almost a direct quote from the 1991 camaro service manual
With the engine on the number 1 firing position, exhaust valves 1, 3, 4 and 8, intake valves 1, 2, 5 and 7 may be adjusted. Back out the adjusting nut until lash is felt at the pushrod. Tighten the adjusting nut until all lash is removed, then tighten an additional 1 turn to center the lifter plunger. Turn the engine one revolution until the 0 timing mark is once again aligned. Exhaust valves 2, 5, 6 and 7, intake valves 3, 4, 6 and 8 may be adjusted.

dude, stop messaging me.
when its MOBILE on the AIM, that means it goes to my phone. so every time you hit enter, thats a fuggin text message.

in anycase, turns are a stupid way to do it. goto zero lash... lookup or better yet, measure, the travel for the lifter plunger... say its .500 (because it probably is).... then for it to be centered, you only need to depress it .250 to center it.
thats between half to 3/4 of a turn, depending on if you have the standard threaded studs, or the metric ones.

in either case, a whole turn past zero lash is excessive.

You say its pinging with any amount of timing. Are you sure that the EGR isnt stuck open and you have the correct vacuum hose to it? No vacuum leaks?

pings anywhere above 4 with 87
and pings very little on 6 with 92 but still pings but its not the full engine pinging im betting its # 5 it has bad valve seals its the only plug that fouls out every 2000-3000 miles all the other plugs look great

as soon as i can get ahold of the correct egr lines ill install the rest of it its disconnected but still on the manifold

Just adjust them while the car is running and its only a half turn aft rocker quiets.Note more than likely all your rocker studs will prob have 3 threads stickin out past rocker nut if you've done it right.

Thats how I always do it. I have a valve cover with the center cut out so You don't have to worry about making a mess.

If you smoked a 90 GTA then his car was in poor shape lol. Your car will not run like a tpi car. It still has the TBI heads and TBI cam. All you did was an intake. I still say you should not be at 6* as your heads and cam are not setup for that. Thats why TBI motors say 0* timing.

messed a 91 or 92 formula it was like the same race as the gta they take me from the start but by the time im at the top of 2nd gear im pulling away from them
formula was deffintly a closer race but he had gutted "cats" and air foil and borla exhaust and less then 45k miles and 3.73 gears
but he also had a cone filter on the throttle body

had formula 350 logos all over it in the wrong spots and a drum rear
i was checking it out at the arbys car show before hand

all in all it was much closer race but still pretty much the same thing that happend to the gta

my car pulls top end not much lowend

89 and up tpi other then g92 and l98 still used the same tbi cam in my car
90 and up non dual cat cars used my stock 2 1/4 exhaust

only difference was induction and heads but from flow charts tbi heads flow better or equal to tpi heads till 5000 its the people that put tbi heads on there high revving carb motor that are sadly disappointed with them Ive only checked flow charts comparing 187 tbi heads to the .081 tpi heads

what Ive noticed is i don't have ton of power off the line i do have some but barley anymore then it was tbi but once it hits 2000 rpm its starts moving out

i don't know if its the torque converter as the tbi ones are set really low 1200 i believe is where its stall speed at also it sucks just driveing around on and off the tcc annoying apperently never did that with the old 2.73s but thats a completly differant issue lol
im sure that effects the way it lanches
