Okay this is a properly functioning fresh 406 that has new aluminum radiator, dual fans, aftermarket adjustable fan relay, stuart high-flow water pump, has the 400 coolant line over the intake manifold, 50/50 coolant and a bottle of water wetter to boot. She still wants to run 220-240. Any ideas?

I have a 350 with a supercharger, an intercooler blocking the radiator, no air dam, stock dual fans (I forget what I have them set to come on at), a 160 thermostat, and a stock water pump and it has never overheated. Does that help?
I understand that 400 blocks tend to run a little hotter than other SBC's. Do you have steam holes drilled in your heads? You might try a different coolant mix with more water. You might try turning the fans on sooner.

i got no thermostat in it either. i asked bout the steam holes when i bought it and he didnt know. it has sportsman II heads though. id guess no holes. hrmm.. all the more reason to get those dart pro 1's. thanks jeremy
Yank the heads and check, any decent machine shop will know exactly what to do if you are not crazy about attempting it yourself.
In the meantime, what's it in? Is the radiator duct in at all?
Aftermarket fans? are you completely sure they are turning the right way? Take a rag and hold it in front of the grill in front of the car, the radiator should have enough duct work that the rag will get sucked into the grill.
Also, try a 5/8 to 3/4 inch restrictor to see if it helps. They usually wont make that much of a change though.

another thing to consider is if the fans are connected to a temp sensor then they might be wired to come on late or not comming on at all....
i know my dual fan temp relay went bad and i just had to wire it right through to toggle switch and now i dont get near 180 but thats on a 355

I have found the problems. There are no steam holes drilled as I called the guy directly. Who knows why. Other than that, they are stock fans on a stock replacement radiator with no shroud. I can get the fans working properly for on/off switching, but it isn't cooling properly so they run constant. The car is in the garage for a long while so I can yank the heads and have the holes drilled and from there I want to save up for one of those mega-sick Be Cool all-in-one kits. That should solve it, I think.
Thanks for the help guys!
