ok here is what happened. I was having charging issues after the last snow. I drove the car to get the altenator tested. When I got home and shut the car off I heard the coolant boiling. I opened the hood and there was coolant spraying out the side of the car. I let the car cool down and the started the car and let it get back up to temp. Now mind you that the temp gauge stopped working about 2 weeks ago. I noticed that the fans was not coming on after letting the car run for 10 mins but it was still hard to tell if there was a leak in radiator due to it still being wet from it spraying out earlier. Would the coolant temperature sending unit be what went out to cause the gauge and the fans not to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Chad

Depending on the year of the car and motor setup. My car is a 91 RS and came with a 305 TBI. There are two relays that control the fans on my car. One is on the heater box and controls the fan for AC. The other is on the firewall on the drivers side and this one controls the fan for temperature. There is a sensor on the passenger side head, under the exhaust manifold to tell the computer the temp of the car and when to turn on the fan. There is another sensor on the intake manifold up by the water inlet that gives the gauge a reading. Other setups, I have no clue on. You may want to try thirdgen.org, we are not much for tech on this site.

yup fans not working will obviously overheat the engin, what you should do, you most likely have an engin light on in the car, have the computer dump it's codes, I am not sure but you can get it to manually dump the codes by jumping the terminals on the port. Remeber or if you don't know this let this be a lesson, if you overheat and fry an engin and it seazes because it overheated you might as well throw the engin away, or better know how to rebuild it. Also on another note, you will in very short time fry your transmission becasue it also uses the radiator for cooling it, and the tranny is much more heat sensitive then the engin is.

btw a CHILTONS manual is invaluable! Get one, read it and you will know what your car has and needs!
