ok, i know its over asked but i cant seem to get the exact answer i need....
i have an lt1 in my iroc, and the starter is absolute GARBAGE ive been screwing with it since i bought it, so, instead of asking what the problem is...as i know whats wrong (clearance issue) but what i wanna know, how much room do you need? i have a .040 AND a .060 shim in it now, and its still no good, you hear the starter motor spin...sadly it did grind the flexplate...but fortunately not badly as the engine is really strong and takes over....theres some visual damage....but not enough to hurt it (well as long as it doesnt get worse) ....so how much shim? ive read on this forum to try shimming the inside bolt, i have the staggered bolt setup, but it seems no matter what shims...doesnt seem to help, and im not gonna let it chew up my flexplate..even using a jack and just sliding the tranny back is a MUCH harder job when the wind chill goes below zero.....the fact that i havent gotten pinched for workin on it in the street LOL, but it'll be ok, i noticed the brace bar i had spare from my ss is same length but thicker...so ill use that one, so if anyone has any other lil tricks, throw em at me and watch me go....oh yea...duh LOL
