I have a 1988 Formula 5 speed and I have a used LS1 motor. I'm sure someone on this board has tried this before. Any help about the install, parts needed, etc would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to use the edelbrock intake and make it a carb instead of keeping the fuel injection. I think I'm in a little over my head, but I'm hoping the end result will make it worth it :)

How difficult was the project? Did you use the edelbrock intake or keep the fuel injection? Did you use a 4L60 or T-56 or keep a 700R4 or T-5?

Sorry I have a ton of questions right now. I'm in the infant stages of this install.

if looked at it as a whole, its difficult, but when you break it down to one thing at a time, it all comes down to connecting one wire.. or tightening one bolt...ect... it was alot of work, but i wouldnt say it was hard...

i kept the EFI. you're stupid not to... its just as much wiring either way, but one way is supported by 1000s of enthusiests, and the aftermarket.. the carbed method relys on proprietary MSD products that still use half the stock stuff, but have no datalogging, minimal tuning...ect.. and you're stuck with a carb so you lose some drivability, lose the benefits of a long runner manifold design, worse fuel economy, ect.

i kept the T56 that came with it. i recommend either the LS1 T56 or the LS1 4l60e.... 700R4s and T5s will break.

for the wiring harness and computer, i would check with local junk yards, that would be the cheapest way to go about it, just make sure they didn't just cut the harness out leaving a mess of wire ends with no connections. just my 2 cents on that.

i would keep the efi, unless if u plan on setting a blower on top of that engine.. lol but if u go carbed, you are defeating the purpose of dropping the ls1 into your car in the first place, the reason for an ls1 swap is the better engine managment, which brings more pony's to the ground and better fuel economy. efi is one of the best things and one of the worst things to happen to engines. best thing is the power capiblities and fuel milage capibilities, and the worst thing is the initial cost and all the wiring (which isn't too bad).

What a foolish topic, if seats out of a 4th gen wont fit in 3rdgens then we all know the motor will not fit also.

Seats will fit just some mods. Motor will fit also :D just some work. I agree with princess Carb and intake. Fuel Injection causes more problems in the long run lol
