I have a truck engine from a 93 silverado I'm going to put in my 92rs...I'm going to put a diff cam in it but am trying to decide between a new flat tappet setup or a cam from a stock LT1 engine and use my roller stuff from my 305....I'm going back tbi and its a 5 speed....thanks

i may be wrong, but im pretty sure that truck engine is hydraulic roller, which would dictate that you would use a hydraulic roller cam. If the lifters (roller) are still in good shape you can reuse them. You can use the cam off of the LT1 engine, just make sure it has provisions for the distributor.
Pop the intake and check the lifters, if its roller, go roller.. If its flat tappet, go flat tappet.. keeps things simple. Considering you want to be semi computer controlled I would aim towards roller due to the fact that they are usually able to be computer controlled. So in the rare case it may be flat tappet I would pick up a retrofit kit. Is it a 2 bolt or 4 bolt main.. casting # etc.

The truck probably isn't a roller cam, but they're all roller blocks, so you can use the spider and lifters from the camaro. An LT1 cam is a great balance for performance, it's big enough to add some power, but it's EFI ready with wide separation and relatively small duration. Either way you're better off with a roller cam, adjustment is a non-issue and lifter life is expoinentially better.

Most of the truck motors are flat tappet, but all of the first gen small blocks from 86 -up are set up for the rollers. You will just need the guides and the spring clamp that holds the guides down. The block in my 91 RS came out of a 93 Silverado. It was flat tappet, and I just took the spring clip and guides out of my junked out 305 motor.
