I have an Alpine CDA-7894 HU that has 4V preouts and a DC-DC converter.
An Alpine MRV-F307 4 channel amp.
And a Rockford Fosgate Punch 201s 2 channel amp (bridged)

What's the proper way to set the gain control on the amps?

And any suggestion on the proper way to tune the system would be helpful. I just have everything plugged in and played around with the HU crossovers and the Amp crossovers until it sounded good to me.

Ah, good question. See the new topic marked "how to tune your amplifier."

Yep, and don't go by the first part - read my post toward the bottom of the page and you'll see why ;)

Gain control is often mistaken for a volume nob. NOT THE CASE!
If your deck says it has 4v outputs then you set your gain to 4 volts!! all amplifiers gains are on a scale usually from 0.8v-4v(some to 8v) look at carefully and set accordingly, dont just set to kill mode or things will die!
