:hide: All,

I confess I have not been here in awhile (In fact this is a new userid for me)

I remember 3rdGen.org as an amazing collection of technical BBs with the most technically competent members I can remember for a BBs. This board seems to have a new format which doesn't instantly reveal to me the depth of technical expertise, I hope still reads this board.

The question which led me to this board is that I am beginning rebuilding an engine. I just received all of the parts from the machine shop. I do not have a ring compressor, and would like any reccomendations anybody would have as to which style of ring compressor to buy. Also, should either the rings or bore be lubricated somehow to protect them at initial startup?

you're thinking of THIRDgen.org.... not 3rdgen.org.

3rdgen.org is a BS site... mostly just a lounge... divorced from TGO as a place to bullshit online.

thirdgen.org is alive and well, and is still the techspot online for 3rdgen fbodies.

I'll be that guy, since I'm boycotting TGO right now. The ring compressor you'll want would be a simple sleeve-type, and when I did my rebuilt, I soaked the piston/rod assembly in oil for an hour. On TGO, there's a constantly on-going debate about whether priming the oil pump prior to start-up makes any difference. I'd say go ahead, it won't hurt anything at least.
