Hey Kurupt!
When upgrading your system, would you say to start with the amps/speakers, or the head unit?
Right now I have all sony stuff in the car, and for obvious reasons, I'd like to upgrade.
I'd like to eventually move up to;
4 tens in the hatch
2 ways in the Sail panels.
Components in the kickpanel speakers.
Tweeters in the A Pillar.
I'd prefer sound quality over SPL.
Advice/Opinions wanted!

Well, that depends dude. First, you have to ask yourself a few questions:
1. "self, am I an audiophile?"
2. "self, do I ever, under any circumstance, see myself getting involved in a stereo competition?"
3. "self, do I really want to spend countless hours worrying if my shit is getting ripped off?"
An audiophile (by street terms) is anyone who enjoys the sound of a well rounded stereo system to the company of people. I'm one!
If you see yourself entering a competition then the answer is amps. If you see yourself not entering a competition the answer is deck.
If you answered yes to number 3, install an alarm before you get anything. :)
In all seriousness, if you're not going over the top with sound, upgrade your deck first. This will provide the jumping off point to your system. It will also provide you with an accurate depiction of where you want your system to end up.
If you are building a system, I have a deck for you. It's an Alpine that I bought a few years ago, the tag on it at the time was $950. I bought it for $360 cost. Of course, you need amps to run anything in your car, including mids and tweets. This deck is so clean, it makes Mr. Clean look like your bitch.
Before I go any further, did you have a budget in mind?

To be completely honest the budget is super flexible, although I wanted to kind of do this as a step by step thing to keep the cost from being one huge payment.
For the Questions.
1. Yes, I make music, and I'm very particular about how I want things to sound.
2. No, I just want to have a killer system.
3. Worrying comes naturally with me, I've got a Viper system in there already, but I accept that someone, if they want it enough, will always get what's in my car.
So I don't have a set budget in mind, but I want quality pieces.
Let's say in the end, I'd like to keep it around 4-5000

Damn dude, I wish I still worked in the industry. I could get you a complete DVD theatre in your car for that. :kiki:

on mine the "up" track selection has been almost entirely rubbed off, I still have the remote with it though. The deck has a few light scratches on the face. Here's a picture:

So is each of the three preouts a set frequency range? Like one for lows, one for mids, and one for highs. Or is there just three, full spectrum 4 volt preouts?
Sounds pretty much like what I'd want. The cosmetic value of the HU isn't of any importance to me. I don't want to look at my radio, I'd much rather hear it.
