stay away from the type S's. They're not what you want. Although they're a good woofer for mid-level systems, they're not competition worthy. Get a pair of Type R's, ebay for 130 shipped.

Type X's are awesome...honestly, I don't think I've ever met anyone with a big enough amp to run them. My MTX 8100D is rated at 12xx Peak...which would only be able to push ONE voice coil on ONE SUB.

i know th eperfect amp crossfire 2000d if i remeber right they push 1000 rms and near 2000 peak i know somone that had 2 of those pushing 2 jlw7 13's sounded awsome then again cadence maes some large amps upto 2,500 watts peak with a 1,500 or 2,000 rms rating could always run 2 amps per sub also u know anything about the airspace requirements of the alpine x's i cant find that much technical info on them even on alpines website

the cadence amp is technically a cheater amp though cause even running 2 of those i could stay in a low power class when actually pusging in excces of 4,000 watts actually 5,000 if bridged with each other and the rating would still only be 300 watts

well, that's great and all...but the type x's are dual voice coil. They're rated at 1000w RMS per voice coil. You can't run two amps to one sub, it's stupid. You'll never match two amps to be within .000001% of each other, which is what would be required...You'll need an amp capable of 2000w RMS @ 2 ohms.

Just FYI, my friend Kelly who has been an installer from age 16 (he's now 32) has run Alpine from day 1. He has Run Type R's since they came out. He bought the Type X's...and got a refund. They're too damn big. :hapsad:

Good luck runnin' 'em if you do.

should be the perfect amp then even still i wouldnt mind running at 1,500 rms less chance of blowing them out

can they be wired for 4 ohm config?

id rather have a better sub to start with so i can always switch to better amps later if need be i quess i could just do 3 alpine type r prolly be alot cheaper lol store near me seels the alpine x for high 400's i forget what they had the type r's for

u wouldnt happen to knwo the mounting depth of thue Alpine SWR-1242D would u ?
trying to figure out some box desgins see if i can fit 3 of them were the bandpass enclousers are now

mounting depth...no. I can tell you right now, If you're planning on putting them in your hatch area, good luck fitting more than two. They require .88 cubic feet of airspace and with the thickness of the wood you need (3/4") for a decent resonant tone on a box, getting that much airspace out of that small place is difficult.

nope im going to put them were the back seats used to be in a ported box 3 facing up or 3 facing foward in the car or i can do what my friend did in his s-10 extreame and fire them at the floor he did that with 4 rockford 10's and it sounded dam nice though if i did that i could only fit 2 due to the trans tunnel
i always use 3/4 mdf for my boxes

in the back seat? Hmmm. That won't sound great if they're facing forward. I think that for the best SQ, you'd need to fire them directly down, into a load board. For the best SPL, up (off the roof) or towards the back. The only problem I see with bouncing them off the hatch is that you'll cancel out most of the bass...

foward facing will sound fine as long as #1 there is no distortion #2 the box is built properly, right now witht he bandpass encloousures i have in the car the ports face up twards the roof, used to have them firing at the floor on an angle with about 4-5 inches clearance from the port exit, facing the ports down gave me more of a good solid thump, but facing them up i lost some thump but got alot louder or so it seems in the car havent hhad it to a competion yet to find out but i will tom if none of my plans fall threw, hopefully after tom ill have used up the roll of film that has the sytem pics on it so i can show u some pics of whats there now and how i did it, so u can see what i want to do with the new box, any way i do it ima go with ported enclousures depending on the sub i go with will prolly be tuned to like 35-45 hrtz or somewere around there, and hell if 3 12's in the back seat arent loud enough theres always room for 2 m0ore in the hatch area lol
