Vin identification

Does anyone know of a good website that will tell me what options were available for firebirds during certain model years? Example: 305 tpi with 5spd and t-bar roof. I am looking to purchase a car but can't figure out how the vin will distinquish between a 305 tbi and 305 tpi.

well looking under the hood is a good way to start, go to thirdgen.org it has a list of rpo's, the rpo's are in side of the center console i believe they also have a vin decoding sheet

note go to the data section everything else is offline
the rpos are in the rpo decoder
the vin is in the vin decoder, the tech section states horsepower for the engines and stuff about the car of that year

oh yeah all rs models came with tbi, all z28 85+ models came with tpi, plus it will say tpi right on the intake system and on the rear bumper

wrong again mcdamit. some 85+ z28's came TBI.

yeah and you can tell if its TBI or TPI by looking under the hood of the fucking car.

this is true to a point. what if someone has repainted the car and didn't put the emblem back on? i have seen a lot of cars that way. and what if someone had a rs and put a tpi emblem on it. and also put tpi on as well. so you are right to a point.

ok what about the v6's. they didn't have tbi. they had mpfi. i know (off the top of my head) 10 people that have had them.

yep some rs's came with the big bad 2.8l mpfi engines, hell i have one sittin in my yard.

don't for get about the 90-92's. they had the 3.1. cant forget those powerhouses

If someone will let me know how to do it or if I can, I have a sweet little program that everyone will love. It's a VIN and RPO decoder. All you do is put in either one you want to know and it will bring up a list of everything you have. Kinda useless for most of us after a couple of uses at most, but always nice to have around.

BTW, this is specifically for 3rd gen F-Body cars.
