Check the gas line. Mine did that once and it took me forever to find it. It ended up being the line right behind the alternator. It would only leak once it warmed up. When you start smelling it stop the car and look under it. Worth a try I guess.

Check the filler neck where it meets the tank. THe 90-92 s had a recall due to a leaking joint at the tank. Dealer replaced ours while it was still under warranty (it was dripping on the left exhaust pipe). I see you noted that it is a new tank but it would be good to check anyway.

Another thing you might want to check is yur charcoal canister. if this system is not working and you have a high pressure fuel system. pressure will build in the tank and escape from the fuel cap.

there is pressure in the tank when i remove the gas cap, how do you check the canister and related parts? i dont suppose it will set a code...

there are 2 things that you can check. check around for a vaccuum hose that is disconnected or worn. check the filter on the bottom of the canister. If you have pressure in the fuel tank then the problem is definately the charcoal system. There may also be a clog somewhere in the lines.
