I have a 1989 IROCZ 305 TPI.

A while ago, my car died at a stop light but I have not had the chance to work on it. My dad did not think it was worth it. I recently began to fix it.

I replaced the fuel pump and I tried changing the ECM. I have had tried two ECMs and both of them do not work. The car still does not start. The time chain seems to be fine.

I did a search but didn't really know where to start looking. If someone has any ideas as to what I can do, please reply.

I am not too familiar with the Camaro family and its engine. I'm mainly a japanese car kind of guy.

Thanks.

let me get this straight... your car died. u let it sit for a while. then one day u decided to fix it, but instead of diagnosing the problem u just started replacing stuff???

im sorry there is no help for u here.

What you need to do is diagnosis the car. First thing I would do is check the compression. Then i would check spark with a timing light. or other testing device. Then I would check other things. It is hard to diagnosis something that is not right in front of you. but if you could be more specific i will try to help.

No, the diagnosis is it doesnt start....... so I found that the engine was not getting fuel.. and figured out the fuel pump does not work. the car still does not start after that... so I think maybe the ecm is busted, so i swapped it for a different one, using the same prom chip. It still does not start, so i think thats not the problem.... The engine will crank, but not choke.

I think maybe the initial problem was the fuel pump was broken... but then it was sitting in my back yard for so long (5 years) maybe something got clogged.

Please dont respond with useless post, montec.

If somebody has an idea what could happen from the car sitting so long... or perhaps even any other idea not related to long term non usage, please reply.

Thanks.

how the fuck am i a tool i asked you to help him it would help if if you didn't take you a fucking hour. And what do you mean he has a lighted spark plug, if they are burnt out he is a dumbass for replacing all the parts, right now i have to figure out why mine decided to die, she's been misfueling but im generally only down one cylinder. I know the O2 sensor wouldn't do it, the maf and all the other ones by the throttlebody would but they are all working. Any ideas,

fuel pressure is good, spark plugs are new, im gonna chalk it up to the ignition or the injectors

no, but i got it and the person who helped thanks, the icm is overheating problem is all the parts stores are closed. Any idea were i can get a new icm for a 89 f-body small cap hei distributor, and where is can get screws for the distributor cover? and the icm, the cover screws, ie the torks are stipped and being an idoit with big duffy fingers dropped the screw to the icm down into the engine bay somewhere

If the car sat for that long, the fuel in the tank is bad and needs to be drained and replaced I'd also look at the fuel pump relay on the driver's side of the firewall that may have been your original problem. Lack of fuel pressure is usually either the relay or the pump. After sitting that long I would also replace the fuel filter, clean or replace the plugs and get a new dist. cap and rotor.
