I have some free time now so I’ll write a quick letter. Things are ok over here. After almost two months I find I don’t miss home as much as I thought I would. The work here is hard though, 6 days a week 12+ hours a day. We are on a project bolting armor on Army vehicles. We started out on medium trucks and now we are bolting kits on 5 ton trucks.
This is a special rotation, we think we are going home at the normal 120 day mark, but no one can say for sure. (that is the most depressing part) They treat us like gods over here, and rumors indicate this project is a “pet project” at the highest levels of the Pentagon. I know we’ve seen numerous two, three and four star generals visiting the shop, if that tells you anything. The Army is going to be taking over the project on April 1st, everyone is either dreading that or optimistic about it. Time will tell.
I was informed my father finally passed away Monday. They want to send me home for about a week of emergency leave to attend the burial in Ohio. I still don’t know if I should go or not. It would be hard to come back here after all that.
The Iraqis still launch the occasional motar or two at us, its interesting...its a sound and a feeling quite like no other most will ever experience. The initial "kkk-boom in the distance, followed by the vibration through the ground" its actually pretty cool.
Every day here is like a air show. F16s take off often during the day and night on full afterburner, its a deafening sound and looks pretty cool. Blacked out C130s, and various other aircraft fly over head. Its cool, you only hear the sound then look around and maybe sometimes you actually see the aircraft for a few minutes and its gone.
Well thats all for now.
