Hey

Currently running two older JL 10s. they are single voice coil though i don't know the designation on them. I got them for nearly free. The excursions are starting to go (they are probably 10 years old) and i want to upgrade the whole system.

Right now they are in a box in the well of the back and they fire up into the hatch. However, with the rollcage installed my rear seats are practically useless now so i am considering building a sub box to go there.

The two subs are currently powered by a MTX 2150X..this thing is old school, specs say they make 300 watts bridged, my spec sheet that came with mine says 425 watts.

I listen mostly to rock and roll, punk, hard metal, and some rap....when i turn on the rap i want it to really thud, however the sound still has to be nice and tight for the rest of the music i listen to.

So. what would you put in this car if i was replacing the rear seats with a sub box....pretty much lets me design a box however i want and allows for some pretty large volumes.

I was thinking 2 12s. I don't want to spend more than 150 bucks a sub, and woujld certainly not mind if it was cheaper. I know you like the Alpine's Korupt...the 12inch tpye R's are about 120 bucks online right?

Why is 2 the magic number? Why not 4 10s or 3 12s or something? I'd have the room.

My normal speakers are upgraded and powered by a JVC class A at 50 watts RMS and 100 peak. the head unit is some high level pioneer without an internal amp that i traded a stock head unit for...coudln't go wrong there. It sounds quite nice, the faceplate is just a bit beaten up.

What would you power 2 type R 12s with? the alpine amps are amazingly expensive it seems.

If there was a reason to bump up to 3 12s or lets say 4 10s...why? and what would you power them with?

Thanks man

better. :)

Personally, I wouldn't put your sub box that close to yourself or your passenger. It's not going to sound very good, and it'll drown out anything you can put in those sail panels. I'd go for a nice Q-logic box in the hatch area, maybe build it up a little and throw 3 10's in it. You want hard hitting, decent sounding bass...you'll want to fire off that back hatch and into your cabin. 2 isn't a magical number, it's just that when you go above that you'll have to run different subs to get the correct ohmage (i think I made that word up :kiki: ) for the amp you're using.

In short, I use multiples of 2 so I can run either one amp or 2... that's just how I roll. The Alpine amps are nice, but only for mids and tweets...they're really crisp and clear and generally don't provide enough "slop" for decent sounding bass. I would run either an older PPI, a newer MTX or a kicker amp. I've had success with all of those.
