I have posted in all the third gen forums looking for an answer but all I get is a half assed joke.
I had my 1983 z28's carb rebuilt about 3 weeks ago and I had the o2 sensor replaced along with the egr valve. I am having a problem with taking off now, it hesitates and if I don't give it a lot of gas then it dies. It only does this while in drive though. Have any ideas, suggestions?

Did it start as soon as you replaced the O2 sensor? The sensor could be faulty. Also I'd say check for vacuum leaks.

hehe...the o2 sensor that was there before hadn't been working for at least a year. It works the same with or without it.

The problem is more than likely in the adjustment on the carb, if it's a Quadrajet, the baseplate has to be drilled for the rebiuld and have screws put in it, and if whoever did the drilling (or didn't do it) may have messed up the mixture. Find out if it is a Qjet, or what type of carb it is, and I can give you more help. It is NOT the O2 sensor, I damn near garuntee.

This guy works solely on carbs and does nothing else. He told me that it can't be adjusted since it's electronic, that it's controlled by the computer. Because we asked about the adjustment stuff before we left. It is a stock 83 quadrajet.

ya u can adjust the carb. its a qjet, you really have to know what your doing when u mess with them.

:true: There are ways to adjust computer qjets, you just have to know what you're doing. If it is a problem coming off idle, it's most likely the metering rods/plate, take it back to the guy who did it to make sure he tightened everything down and didn't mess it up. (On a Qjet, if you don't tighten the body down, the mixture rods don't have the right gap, therefore won't give you the right amount of gas.)
I hate giving tech advice over the internet, I have a hard time explaining what I'm thinking, so I hope I at least helped a little bit.

I took it to a mechanic yesterday and he said that the carb was rebuilt badly and that gas was spraying out from the carb. Does this sound normal? He told me to take it back to the guy that rebuilt it but I don't know why this guy would have rebuilt it badly, he makes a living out of doing it and is famous all around this area.

gas spraying out of the carb? the gas should only spray out of 4 places, the 2 primary jets and the 2 secondary jets.
other than that no, no gas should be coming out from anywhere else.
take it back to the guy and get him to redo it.

Yeah the guy showed me where the gas was coming out at one of the front gaskets and was messed up inside. I also found out the new egr valve I bought is screwed up.

I want to punch him in the face, it takes half of my day to get that carb off of there! That seriously makes me mad. I will have to spend my whole day on this project. If this does not fix my problem then I'm going to sell the car, I can't deal with all the money I'm putting into it. I have been working at my job for two months and since I have worked there every single paycheck has went into that car. I haven't been able to do anything with my money.

Well, if you want to throw some money into it, buy a new intake first. One that fits the holley, because you will need an adaptor for the dp if you don't. stock quadrajunks are a pain in the ass.
