what would cause a tach to be really jumpy? when u rev the motor the tach goes crazy, it will reach about 4500 then above that it will jump around ALOT. yes this is in the same 84z, i swaped the entire guage cluster out for the upgraded speedo, but the tach problem is still there.

bad filter? or problems in the distributor, something not sending a good signal? bad ground?

Bad ground probably, check the ground at the distributor under the cap, vibrates more with more rpms.... also could be a bad cluster/tach, if the only thing you changed was the guages, then it's probably the tach, GM tachs are inaccurate as hell and are pretty much worthless. Aparently the 350 TPI I had in my Sport coupe could rev past 6500. :kiki:

no, i changed the entire guage cluster, speedo, temp, volts, fuel, and tach. so both tachs are doing the same thing.
