We tore apart Erins back half, removing the whole rearend, LCA's and everything. We installed the new Walbro 255 pump and put the tank back in. Also installed the new LCA arms and UMI Panhard bar. The rear went back in along with the old KYB shocks. Next to do on the list is put the new torque mount bushing in, tranny mount, bolt the TA to the rear and try to remove the tranny x member bolt I snapped off. Breaker bar and rusted bolts dont go together. There is about 1/4 sticking out. Any idea how to get the bolt out? I was thinking about getting it cherry red and putting some vise grips on it. Other then that, hew old rusted and leaking lines are out and her stainless lines are back in. Once this is all setup the rear swaybar will be reinstalled along with new shoes i bought for the rear. We also put a nice fancy cover on her diff and filled it with some mobil 1. Yea is a 2:73:1 but This isnt an all out race car. + This rear has Posi too. Erin has some pics shes going to post later in the day.
Next step is to get the front in the air and start working on the front suspension. we got a whole moog setup, and new kyb struts, new brake pads and also new ES poly front LCA bushings. Were going to have to get a new set of the spring isolators because I think these old stock ones are toast. Once thats done then we can remove hood and prepare for some open heart surgery.
I'm pretty sure the whole engine bay is for sale lol so if you need something feel free to ask.

Well tongiht I finally had the chance of updating the front end. I installed all new Moog steering stuff and also picked up the stock A arms from napa with ES bushings pressed in and new Moog ball joints. Also had them press in new u joints as well in the driveshaft. I got over to the car tongiht and also reinstalled the sway bar and wonder bar. Then the fun part. I installed the A arms then tried my luck at the springs. 6 hours later I have 1 half in and the other still sitting there. I cant seem to compress the spring enough to fit the lip on the top and bottom. Even with a rental spring compressor and impact it was hard as hell. I will hopefully have it done on Sunday. Then I can bolt everything else back in.

sounds like some pretty good progress how soon do you think it will be done? after what i saw on the red one, you guys prob wont ever drive it in the snow or rain
how much was that moog setup you got?

we bought all Duralast stuff from Autozone, because their Duralast parts are accually Moog. If you open the box it has moog stamped on the part. For ball joints, inner and outter tierods, new sleeves, centerlink, idle arm it came in around 220.00 with a Discount from Greg over at the macedonia AZ

Sunday I want to get the springs in, spindle back on, attach all the tierods and endlinks and put the new struts on. Once thats done we are putting the new brake pads on then move onto the engine bay

89 TPI MAF Firebird to an origional 91Camaro SD system was trickey. This swap should be a piece of cake.

Matt do you still want the WS6 springs I have?
Mkos1980
03-02-2005, 11:22 AM
She accually decided against them. After she thought about it she said my car rides too stiff for her and she likes the comfort lol

Comfort? These cars are not made for comfort. She might as well have the car that rides stiff and good control then a car that rides stiff and is all mushy feeling. Shouda bought a caddy..............

lol. We were going to throw in a WS6 quick ratio steering box which we have lying around but she also mentioned she didnt like how fast my car turned when she drove it so were sticking with the regular RS box. Ya gotta love her though :)

P.S-say if i did race it, i heard the v6 springs help with the launch hehehe :raz:

WELL WELL WELL I finally got the springs in (BTW this is Matt) It took 80 million hours to do her springs. It seems the RS springs are longer then then WS6 springs but both have equal ride heights. Yhe are on but somewhat close to the exact location. It says to cover half or all of 1 drainage hole, well I was only able to get it like a 1/16 to one hole said I said good enough. Damn spring compressor snapped and got me in the leg pretty good :( . We got all new steering bolted in and sway bar bolted in now along with new bumpstops are well. During the week Erin and I will remove the rest of the motor shit in preparation for the transplant saturday with the help of Saw. We shall post pics later.

Tonight I started the engine bay dismanteling. Nick joined me to help with the fun lol We threw away all the smog shit. Found the AC box was cracked so byebye that went. Only thing I held onto was the AC compressor. Manifolds both came off the threw away. Entire engine harness is out and the entire TBI setup, manifold, 2 barrel and so on. We ripped out the radiator to find a crack on that. Thats cool cause we got a new one. Only thing left in the engine bay is longblock. We will def post pics of the new TBI motor in this weekend

Well today I installed the driveshaft, and all the brakelines and hoses. I tried to bleed the system myself but it was a no go. I have so much air in the lines its funny lol. I then installed the new tranny lines, bolted up rest of tranny and converter, inspection cover and installed the radiator. Also took care of installing the serp setup with PS pump alt, water pump and 1le pulley. Theres so much misc stuff now its crazy. There is at least 3 more full days working on this thing.

Hey erin, what fuel pressure guage are you using? that's nice
Mkos1980
03-16-2005, 06:55 AM
Thats my Accel one I gave her. It could fit right with my SR so I poped it on heres. Its about 5 years old and the origional guage broke so I took that off and installed a NOS FP one.

Well this will probebly be the final week for major stuff done. Let see, We need to bleed all 4 brakes and master cyl. and attach the brake hose to the struts . Once thats done were going to roll it out and then I'm going to try to install the wireing harness. I'm going to shoot to make it look factory so it may take a little time. Once all wiring is in, I'll install the fan coolant hoses and filler up. Headers will then go in. Have to istall the TPI throttle cable yet and have to find a TV cable. May just buy a new one. Once all that is installed, I'll go ahead with installing the subframe connectors, Y pipe, cat and rest of exhaust. Then its misc crap. But the car should be running by at least the first week in April. (Yea right nothing works out for me lol)

hey matt... do you know if the tv cables interchage from year to year?
you can have the one out of this 84 z28 if you think it'll work.
also, did you find the throttle cable?

This wiring is a be-otch. I'm not used to camaro wireing since the last car was a Formula wiring I knew it by heart but theres some grounds and a few connectors I dont know where the hell they go lol. + Like I said I want it to look professional so I am useing all the stock stupid steel clips and crap.

you need a tv cable? i have a good one for tpi $10 come and get it. scott knows me.

Well tongiht was a good night to work on it. I finished up all the wiring and attached evertyhing except the 02 , temp guage prob, and distributor stuff. I installed driver side header and reattached the steering shaft. Fan is installed and all coolant hoses. I filled up the motor with antifreeze and no leaks. Yay. From there I installed some vacume lines, charcoal canister and lines installed the battery. I had to make up a wire for the positive since the TBI didnt have those two pigtails like tpi and the firebird one we used was driver side battery so I had some fabrication to do. I also installed her SFC's and hung the rear part of the exhaust. With all electrical hooked up I attached the wires to the battery and so far everything works. didnt try starter yet. Fuel pump primes (yay) and no fuses blown like when we did the V6. fuel pressure 43 psi but sniff sniff I smell gas. Oh year I hand tightened and fuel filter so I went under and tightened it. Although it seems were almost done. Theres always a boatload to do left before we fire it up.
Mkos1980
03-21-2005, 06:14 PM
I guess all i have left is passenger side header. I have to drill out one of the holes on the connector since the bolt decided to snap off. Then make sure no wires are touching. The brake lines are all over the other side header so I have some bending to do. Then I can install 02 and hook that up and zip tie all those wires away from teh headers. Crank Bolt needs to be installed and gotta get a belt. NON ac box needs to be installed and all those wires hooked up. Under hood wire and light, distributor, wires and sparkplug wires. oh yea spark plugs too. Then I'll work on the y pipe. Thats always a be-otch, cat and cat hanger from the tranny has to be installed, intermediate pipe and over axle as well. After that I need to get a bracket for the external coil since we sold th ebracket with the old coil and all we have is a coil now and no bracket lol. EGR vac lines need to be done, throttle cable, tv cable, cruise control cable. Then I'll be ready to fire up.

Mkos1980
03-23-2005, 05:01 PM
Well I worked on it some more today. I installed the TV cable, installed distributor, installed the Y pipe and part of the intermediate pipe. That pipe and the over axle do NOT want to go together. I may have to fab something up. Also istalled some more vacume lines. 02 sensor is installed. Crank bolt is put in, belt is put on. All thats left is attach intermediate pipe, fab up an exhaust hanger for the rear, torque the crank bolt and the idler arm nuts. Drill out the tranny x member bolt that snapped off, Install the plugs, wires, egr vac lines and mount coil. Then we gotta install non ac box and trim the hampster wheel so it works ok and doesnt rub. Mount those relays over there and I'm rigging in an on/off switch for the underhood light. Intake boot, maf and clamps and its ready to fire. Then its off to get the alignment done and to have them bleed the brakes. I think theirs air in the master cyl.
THEN
We need a headliner, sail panels, sun visors, one plastic interior piece, install the new speakers front and rear.
