i'm in the middle of swapping out my tpi in my 86 trans am to carb. there are 2 plugs that go to the trans that will be deleted with me removing the efi harness. one is the vss i believe (tail) but the other i'm unsure. is it for torque converter lock? if so, what can i do to make this trans work properly with my new carb set up? any help would be GREATLY appreceated as this will be my dailly for the next 3 months until i can finnish my 350(still a short block) and b&m trans. ;) but for now i need to get this thing back together QUICK! damn snow storms! if it wern't for the snow and the down time, i wouldn't have started this.. got board and had to screw with something! now the roads are clear and dry and my t/a is in the garage in peices.. have a good one.

yes that is the t/c lock up. im not sure about 700's but on the 200's u can run with out them and just not have the lock up feature. but if u want it then your gonna have to either:
A) buy a lock up kit
B) run wire from a power source, through a switch, to the trans, and just flip the switch when u want it to lock up.
before i babble on to much farther, all of the info i have is on the 2004r, so im not positive if it will work on the 700r4 or not. im sure someone will verify this.
option B is more cost effective, while A is more convient.

Yes, You can run the 700r4's without the lockup connected without hurting anything.

thanks.. guess i need to get a chiltons to figure how many volts to the selinoid to energize it. if it's stepped down first? saw a few "kits" at jegs but don't look like much to make. thanks

just disconnect, you won't know the difference.

leave it disconnected if you dont care about mpg. if you care and do alot of highway driving, just pick yourself up a toggle switch to engage and disengage and mount it on the console somewhere.

mark your tach, because w/o the vss your speedo wont work.

Right now my speedo is broke = no vss = no t/c lock up. It sucks. My mpg droped a couple, and I just don't like/need the extra revs on the highway. I would have some way to have t/c lock up.
