I want to install some Infinity 4x6 plates in my 88's dash. Cructhfield said they won't fit, but a friend of mine who is an installer said he remembers putting them in other 3rd gens, just is a tight fit.

Best advice? Get rid of the plate idea man, but if you're really set on going with those, you'll have to check the depth.

Check out the Sticky at the top of the page for more ideas.

That's funny. I have a set of Infinity Kappa plates that I bought from Crutchfield. They've been in my closet for a very long time. Apparently Crutchfield has changed their mind on them. I'll finally get em installed when I start re-assembling the car this spring. That reminds me, I've got to get some 6x9's for the rear.

would mounting tweeters in the kick panel area (in addition to the 4 x 6's in the dash) make an improvement to the response and the soundstage?

Dude. I hate 4x6's...they're just too small for any practical purpose. If you were running a 6 channel amp, then yeah. 4x6's don't emit any sort of bass frequency (at least they shouldn't) and they don't do anything a decent set of tweets can't do. My $ is for a midrange setup in either the door or kickpanels...for optimum sound staging it should be above the ear pointed down...:)

you can buy pre built kick panels can't you?

my kicks are the factory bose units with the internal amps in them...they aren't worth any money but i bet it might be tough to take them all apart sicne it looks like the amp is molded into the panel itself.

Just found out the hard way that my set of Infinity plates don't fit. They're too deep, and the tweeter sticks up a little higher than the stock speaker as well. I'll be going the kick panel route.

That sucks buddy. I think you'll be impressed with the kickpanels. Also, your speakers aren't subject to sunlight as they are in the dash...just your drunk buddies' feet. :)
