I am finishing up a stealth ram swap on my 88 camaro. When reinstalling the distributer, does it matter what side the contol moduale is facing? I know that the #1 cylinder needs to be at TDC and the rotor needs to face the #1 spark plug post on the cap, but does it matter is the contol moduale is on the drivers side or pass. side of the engine?

it does not matter as far a functionality. As long as you keep it straight in regards to timing.

I was thinking that. Timing is all computer controled, so I wasn't thinking it mattered. You can not advance or retard the timing by moving the distributor like on older cars , right?

Which side is it on from the factory?

Actually timing is just as important. But you can rotate the distributer and make sure the timing is still correct by rotating the order of the plug wires

you can still rotate the distributer like in the older cars. i would just put it back in the way you took it out. the get your timing set.

2 types of advance you are working with. one the static and the other computer. when you set your static or base timming via dist. make sure the computer advance is disconnected. the computer can add up to (depending) 20 degrees. with the spout disconnected you can set your base timming at tdc at compression.

So, which way was it from the factory? The car has been apart for over a year, so I don't remember which side it was on.

it really makes no difference where the distributor itself is rotated as long as the rotor is facing the #1 at tdc of the compression stroke. get your motor to tdc on the compression stroke. after you do that drop the dist in that the wires to the ecu are facing in the back. now with the dist. installed put the cap on and start your #1 spark plug wire at the closest terminal to where the rotor tip is facing. this will be your new #1 position then install the rest of the wires clockwise in the firing order 18436572 that is the fire sequience. also, when facing your engine standing if front of your car your motor's #1 cyl is the one facing the most forward. so if you are standing in the front of your engine #1 cyl would be numbered as such

Thanks, however, I have a question about your pic. It looks like #1 is in the wrong place on the dist cap, shouldn't it be more towards the front?

it doesn' tmatter where one is on the cap...its just gotta line up with the rotor when the engine is at TDC

he's right. as long as the rotor is facing #1 at tdc on compression.
