My have the automatic trunk closing mechanism thingy. The other night, I was driving home and I noticed that the cabin light kept flickering on and off. As I got home, I noticed that the motor for the trunk was running constantly.

Earlier that day I had a problem with it closing and opening non-stop for about ten minutes.

But with the motor constantly running, I went to open the trunk, and it still ran constantly. I trieds closing it and the only way to close it was to slam it shut because the latch would not catch. I ended up pulling the fuse for it. Now any slight bump and the cabin light goes on because the latch is not pulling it closed.

I know it sounds ghetto, but I ended up putting a penny over the button for the light so it would stop flickering as I drive creating a Camaro rave.... Does anybody know what could be wrong with the motor?

Check your ground. Makes sure you have secure connections behind the carpet for the trunk motor. Maybe spray the latching mechanism with some WD40 or similar, could be sticking.

If your grounds and the contact are good you need to check the pull down mechanism. If you pull off the panel that covers the latch you'll probaly find that the plastic housing on the latch pull down mechanism has cracked and is allowing the motor to spin without catching. I've had 2 of them do that they are not well made. You can get the plastic housing from GM and transfer over the motor. It's a little cheaper than replacing the whole assembly. If this is your problem don't open and close the trunk any more if possible until you are ready to replace the parts. If you slam the trunk too many times the housing will break off entirly and the trunk will not latch at all.
