Alpine type R's aren't new dude. They've been out for over 2 years. You can find 'em on Ebay, or other car audio stores online. While they are a kickass speaker (I've had 2 sets  ) The type X is the newest.

Yeah the Type-Rs arent new but they came out with a new series that are more powerful, theyre due on March 7th (thats what crutchfield says) but I went ahead and ordered the SWR-1241D instead and Ill just be running one to a Pioneer mono amp at around 500 watts rms@2ohms. Heres what the new Type-Rs look like and the specs for them http://www.crutchfield.com/S-shq42nfOxj6/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=67700&I=500SWR1242. I didnt feel like paying $100 more when they have the older Type-Rs for $100 on ebay

Nice! I'm goin' with the Type X's in a few months.

Sounds like you'll have a good setup. Make sure to run at least 4 gauge wire to that amp, both power and ground. Good luck!

Does the wire gauge insure too much resistance doesn't occur only, or does it also help the amps output (for the same reason) in other words does heavy wire improve the sound? what gauge wire should I use on a mtx thunder 421d (200 watts @ 4 ohms) THANKS...

The Type-X is out of my price range right now but those would be nice. I will be going 4 gauge.

Yeah they do help the current, the bigger gauges also help make sure the wires don't melt at higher power because they will if you dont have the right gauge. I think 8-gauge would be fine to run for the 200 watts, I probably wouldnt go any smaller though. Just to be on the safe side.

heavy wire will not improve sound. Heavy wire will improve your amps not overeheating and melting shit...but hopefully you've already run an inline fuse/circut breaker. 200 watts at 4 ohms...see the wire chart :finger:

Seriously...I'd use 8 GA. Make sure your ground is under 1 foot in length.
