Lets see, it started out normal. 7am training class, around 9:05 the Vehicle Maint Superintendant pulls me out of class. As you can imagine, this can only be no good.
Two minutes later I find out... I'm going to be in Iraq in time to see the pretty fireworks for the coming election. You think thats short notice? We (me and 7 others from the shop) were suppost to leave the 27th... Fast forward to 1pm...we found out that our plane leaves Philly at 6:05PM SUNDAY! Usually they give a couple weeks notice at least, lol.
Well as of now, we're going to a fun little place north of Baghdad called Balad. Supposedly we are going to be Up-armoring Humvees with the Army and Navy in co-operation. That means we probably wont even be in the Air Force part of the base, so one can only guess as to the "accomidations". If I had to guess, the Army will probably work us like slaves to "show us Air Force guys" what they have to deal with.
Well, at least its in direct support of the war effort... Well, see you all in 4 months.
Rob: If you read this I'd like to take leave when I get back around late June timeframe... I'd like to ride the W&LE/ABB RR Blue Tip train down the X-Erie main to Rittman Ohio, if your interested. I think its like June 28th.
Later all.

P.S. Anyone want a IROC if I dont make it back? Seriously, tomorrow among a assload of things we get to do, making out a will is one of them. I'd rather have it goto a good home.

Well, you knew it would happen eventually. Sorry that they didn't give you some time to prepare. Hopefully you'll be stationed somewhere quiet. Keep us updated prior to shipping out. We'll see about our summer adventures when you get back.

Faith wants to know where to send the cookies to and has started a 'care' package of other goodies, edible and not. When you get yourself settled over there, give us your APO address.

Well, we had our intel briefing today, without revealing anything that we dont probably already know or imagine, lets just say these people are not worth the billions spent on "giving" them their freedom.
Didnt one of our founding fathers state that a people who would not fight for their freedom do not deserve it? These fuckers melt away when they are faced with the insurgents. They launch motars and rockets at us from the tops of sand dunes for fucks sake. If not for the availability of cheap x-Soviet hardware, they would be reduced to throwing sticks and stones at us.

Well after all the running around they've had us do the last 3 days, I'll actually be relieved to get to a WAR ZONE, lol. Shit, yesterday it started at 7am, and I didnt get home until 10:30pm.
Same non-stop hurry up and get this done because we did shit at the last minute today. Sunday we drive up to Philly, is going to be another interesting time...considering one of the worst snow storms is due to hit saturday and sunday, dropping almost a foot of snow on Philly. (projected) Yay!

I guess I'll get my last sentiments in before you go. Please be careful, duck a lot and come home safe. My wife says to bring home a rock...we have a thing for rocks...and we'll add it to our collection. Four months doesn't seem long but in Iraq, I can only imagine it'll feel like an eternity. Take care Brian.

Well I made it to Iraq safe. Many interesting stories. the 18 hrs we spent in germany rocked! This place sucks, desert? Its more like clay with constant stagnent puddles of water. You'll be amazed when you see the pictures. They work us like dogs so I probably wont be on much. I'll try to keep you updated.

Well, I think you knew going in what to expect as you said the Army would treat you like slaves. Maybe it's just an 'adjustment' period ;) Hopefully it'll settle down.
Let us know if you need anything, get that APO to us and we'll send out a care package. If there's others in your unit who need something, pass it along.

Thanks for the package Rob, things are going ok here. It sucks ass, but time passes fast, sort of. They made computer access really hard here now, so I wont be on as much. Later.

No problem Brian. Just glad I can help the effort in some way even if small. Let me know if there's anything in particular you need.
