I read in one of the treads that you can swap a governor from a corvette to my 700r4 what kind of difference will this make and which year do i get the part off of? THanks

the purpose of the governor is to control governor pressure in the tranny, basically it controls the shift relative to vehicle speed. Do some research, I don't think the vette should be that different and the best you'd get is an earlier or later shift. I know switching to the vette servo is common, I forgot for what but it makes one of the shifts firmer. If I were you, a pretty simple afternoon mod is to install a shiftkit. If you really want to improve the performance feel of the transmission and even improve the longitivity of the clutch packs. Get one of transgo, best all around kit and doing the vette servo at the same time is easy and cheap. Still nice soft shifts and low rpms and harder shift when gasing it.

Yeah, the Vette Servo improves the 1-2 shift and possibly the 3-4. The Vette governor should be the same as the F-body. You can always change the weights and springs of the governor to alter your shift points.

Actually, the vette governor was used in 88 and up F-bodies and only used in the Iroc and WS6 equiped models until 1990. 91/92 Z28 and WS6 models where the only ones to get that gov. 305 TBI/V6 models did not get that governor. The major diff's are the lghter springs on each side causing a later shift at WOT shifting at 6300 rpm instead of 5000 rpm, I myself changed to one after I baught my new tranny from Bow-Tie Overdrives and it did not have anything near the Z28 or vette governor
Just FYI governors control shift points and servos are designed for shift firmness. So changing to vette servo is well worth it.
