Can't figure out when I take off from a dead stop the transmission feels like it's not engaging until the car gets going around 15-20 mph. The rpms get way up and gradually the transmission will start engaging. It's an automatic tranny but it feels similar to a slipping clutch; maybe the torque converter is not engaging properly?

History: '82 Camaro, just had it's 2.8 rebuilt, front/rear seals and new filter installed in the transmission and everything put back together. It's running great, looks great and even sounds great. Only problem we're having is the power is not getting to the rear wheels quick enough. Once it finally gets up to highway speed it shifts properly and runs great, just takes forever to get there. When I put it in reverse it does the same thing, sits there and revs up and gradually transfers power to the rear wheels.

Fresh tranny fluid, level is perfect, everything's connected properly.

Any ideas?

take car to tranny shop & have them do a pressure test. also, the tranny may have been in same condition as original engine.............
