That's right, me at the track. Hell must've froze over you're saying. Nahhhhhhhh. Just checking out the action back at Gate #2. The races were awesome. The action intense. In the morning the track was cold and somewhat dry so on the straightaways the drivers were really opening their cars up. However, spinouts were occurring if the driver wasn't careful. A little dampness and racing slicks don't make a good formula when hitting the turn too fast. Good thing the ambulance sat close to the track...just in case the driver lost it completely.
At the pole position was Suzie, point leader going into the races this week. Beside her was Johnny, rookie season but doing well. Behind John was Fred and the rest of the pack. Some seasoned veterans, racing since they could reach the pedals. And some new to the sport but everyone of them eager for the flag to drop.

That's right, they're kids, not yet 12 for most. Gawd, you gotta love em for doing it. And they're having a blast. I got a kick out of just watching them. And some meant business once they hit the asphalt. No mercy for the slow poke. And these were just the practice laps! Once back in and off the track, they became kids again. Running around, jumping in leaves, being kids.

And the parents, they were the pit crew. Here they get their cars ready, checking the straps and helmets. Final adjustments to an engine, heating the tires by picking up on the rear and having the kid hit the gas.

For some, after the kids come back in, it's the parent's turn to hit the track for their class.

Classes are ages 8 to 12, 12 to 15 and 15 and up. And they all seemed to have a good time.

Why was I there? A buddy is interested in getting into the hobby hoping his kid may follow suit. Cost for new racers? Around 2-3000 dollars. All driven by 5hp motors fueled by gas or alcohol. But some of these people are serious of their sport and so therefore their cars. Check em out.

yeah i've seen the kids race there a few times, they used to have races on saturday mornings around the time the drag strip opened up so i'd go park my car in the pits then go watch the kids race until we were allowed to run down the strip
