Hey,

I finally got my car running good today, and after work tonight me and my co-worker/friend, went out to my car in the parking lot of our employer (Target).

So I light it up for about 60-70 yards, and I see a cop car on the street we were turning onto, so I assume he saw us.

He turns into the Target parking lot, and we think nothing of it.

So we go down the street to the gas station, and the same cop comes up about 2 minutes later and parks right next to where we are standing (which started "fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck in both of our heads) gets out of the car, and asks us "Is Jake (night manager) working tonight".

To which we said "Yeah". He then says "Do you know how I can reach him?" So we then tell him he can call the store, to which he says "Ok".

So at this point we can only think "Oh shit, he's calling the manager to tell him we were speeding in the parking lot"

I know it was probably a stupid thing to do, but are officers allowed to do this?

I figured he would've just given me a ticket for exhibition of speed or speeding if he actually saw us.

Why not? What you're describing doesn't sound like a detention (i.e. traffic stop) and the officer has any right to call anybody they want. Since your behavior was in public (and on your employer's property) you don't have any right to privacy with regards to your actions in this context.

Cliff notes: Yes.

Or maybe he didn't even see you do anything and just wanted to know if his buddy was working :conf:

Yea, i dont see why not. At least he didnt give you a ticket. In SC the only thing you be ticketed for in a parking lot is drunk driveing and wreckless driveing. It might be the same where you live, but anyway it sounded liek the cop knew the mananger if he knew who to ask for and you may hear about it. Still, i think thats better then a ticket or butt chewing by a cop.
